About us...

Brattleboro Union High School and the Windham Regional Career Center work together to offer the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Academy which is designed to provide students extended academic and studio experiences in digital art, theater art, visual arts, or the musical arts.

The VPA Academy is designed for students seeking a rigorous and rewarding program in the Visual and Performing Arts. Membership in the VPA Academy also requires that you complete other required high school courses, elective course work, and document attendance at seminars/field experiences or community based education locations during your high school career.

Our Mission
The Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Brattleboro Union High School prepares aspiring student artists in the fields of art, design, theater, movement and music by delivering excellent courses taught by our teaching staff and professionals in the field and portfolio development programs. Our goal is to prepare our students for careers and higher education in the arts.

Music Arts: Instrumental, Percussion

I joined the VPA unsure if I actually wanted to pursue music after high school, but joined to have the opportunities it would provide and to have that pathway if wanted (and because all of my friends were joining too). My VPA membership meant I was being taken to New England and All State auditions my Freshman year, which at the time I was one the few instrumentalists doing so. The band teacher at the time, Steve Rice, was a percussionist, so he had me pulled out of the underclassman percussion lessons to have weekly one-on-one lessons with him during the school day. That sort of priority given to me and my peers, for being in VPA, allowed us to take our craft higher than we would’ve been able to if not. I am so thankful to my VPA advisors and faculty of the music department for providing me with this experience over the past four years.
